CDM Chamber Workforce Builders Awards Finalist
Long Island Works Coalition has selected the CDM Chamber of Commerce as a finalist!, Sep-17-2005, 7:52 AM
The Council of Dedicated Merchants (CDM) Chamber of Commerce is a Workforce Builders Awards Finalist.

The CDM C.O.C. of Mt. Sinai, Miller Place, Sound Beach and Rocky Point has been named as one of the 46 finalists for special awards to be presented during the Long Island Works Coalition's Third Annual Workforce Builders Award Luncheon, Nov.14th, at the Melville Marriott.

The Workforce Builders Awards recognize businesses, educational institutions and other nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities engaged in the efforts to promote a strong Long Island economy and workforce through various school-to-work initiatives. The finalists were chosen from among more than 375 members of the Workforce Builders Honor Roll.

"We are delighted to count the Council of Dedicated Merchants Chamber of Commerce among the local organizations that are taking action to ensure that Long Island continues to have a skilled workforce to depend on by focusing on workforce readiness, business etiquette and ethics, broadening skills for today's economy, funding established programs and/or school-to-work activities," said Cheryl Davidson, executive director of the Long Island Works Coalition.

The CDM Chamber of Commerce has been involved in preparing the future workforce for the past year thought its Rocky Point High School Career Advisory Partnership (RPCAP), participation in local business advisory boards, and student internship programs. Mr. Michael Poveromo, Executive Director of the CDM Chamber of Commerce is the Industrial Chairperson working hand in hand with the Educational Chairperson Ms. Susan Wilson, community leaders, educators, parents and scores of local business merchants soaring to new heights bridging the gaps between business and education.

As a finalist the CDM Chamber of Commerce is now in the running for one of six Workforce Builders Awards that the Long Island Works Coalition will bestow for outstanding commitment in the following categories: advisory boards; in-school activities; work-site initiatives; workforce readiness; workforce readiness in higher education; workforce readiness by government.

The Long Island Works Coalition has been helping to prepare students for the workforce for more than six years. The CDM Chamber of Commerce was organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity of our business community. All means of promotion are provided and particular emphasis is given to the economic, civil, commercial, cultural, industrial and educational interests of our area. In 1996 our business districts unified to form the CDM Chamber of Commerce in an effort to bring business and community closer.
