2005 Campaign statement Republican for Brookhaven Town Supervisor, Oct-17-2005, 8:43 AM
Holding the line on taxes and providing jobs and
> economic opportunities to our residents are keystones
> in my campaign for Brookhaven Town Supervisor. Our
> town offers a great quality of life and I will
> continue fighting to keep Brookhaven an affordable
> place to live, work and raise our families.
>
> Eliminating all general town taxes in 2005 and again
> in 2006 is a critical part of my Taxpayer Protection
> Plan. Keeping our hard-earned dollars in the hands of
> local homeowners and businesses has a tremendous
> benefit to our economy. Managing our resources wisely
> is another priority and I will make sure we maintain
> our top AA3 bond rating on Wall Street and continue
> providing the services our residents have come to
> expect.
>
> My career-long work in the area of suburban planning
> will continue to re-develop our business areas and I
> stand as one of the first local officials to hold the
> federal, state, and other levels of government
> accountable when it comes to making sure our needs are
> met in major transportation projects. We send millions
> of dollars to Washington and Albany and I will fight
> to make sure we get our money's worth.
>
> As Councilman, I led the way to incorporate Hamlet
> Studies into the town's Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
> These long-range planning initiatives guide the town
> board in making community based zoning decisions and
> have been a key tool in fighting suburban sprawl.
>
> I am also leading the way on Corridor Studies along
> the town's major thoroughfares. These land use plans
> will address the problems of traffic congestion, strip
> malls, and hazardous conditions caused by years of
> poor zoning decisions.
>
> Planning is the key to making sure our town looks and
> functions the way our communities expect. I hope to
> continue working with the Council of Dedicated
> Merchants to ensure that our town improves its
> character and economic edge.
