Traffic flow change in Rocky Point bad for merchants, residents and visitors.
Forcing shoppers into danger!, Dec-18-2005, 8:51 AM
Stop this sign

Rocky Point

There will be a Town Board hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. to make it illegal to make a left turn off Mark Drive onto Hallock Landing Road.

All traffic will be forced to exit Waldbaum's Shopping Center onto Route 25A in order to access Hallock Landing Road

There are two traffic lights on Route 25A before you reach Hallock Landing Road.

Residents in the North Shore Beach section of Rocky Point will be forced to exit the shopping center onto Fairway Drive, then onto Route 25A, in order to make a left turn back onto Hallock Landing Road.

The traffic light at Fairway Drive and Route 25A is 30 seconds at best. With the traffic exiting the shopping center onto Fairway Drive, maybe 10 cars can make that light. Traffic will back up on Fairway Drive, preventing traffic from making a left out of that parking lot to go north up toward Mahogany.

Another option would be to exit the shopping center and make a left onto Fairway Drive and travel through the Tides via Mahogany and Short Lane to exit onto Rocky Point Landing Road in order to access Hallock Landing Road.

Banking at Astoria Federal Savings will become dangerous and bad for business!

Another option is to exit the shopping center in front of Waldbaum's where there is no traffic signal at all. Again, a danger to our residents and visitors shopping local!

Are there alternatives to making it illegal to make a left turn off Mark Drive? Perhaps a traffic light or a three-way stop sign at Mark Drive and Hallock Landing Road might work.

Please join with your neighbors and call Councilman Kevin McCarrick to voice your dissatisfaction with this change in traffic pattern. Councilman McCarrick can be reached at his town office at 451-6964 or at his business at 744-2502. Please also call Legislator Dan Losquadro at 854-1600 and Supervisor John J. LaValle at 451-6655. We must stand up for what we know is best for Rocky Point. We should not let the Town Board decide for us.
