Did You Know...
More and more parents are hosting "drinking" parties for their teens.
Some of the reasons given are that if they're going to drink anyway,
the parent can monitor their behavior and alcohol intake, as well as
that of their friends.
If a teen drinks at your house, you will not only be arrested for
providing the alcohol, but the liability is yours if a young person
hurts themselves or someone else.
Young people cite other people's houses as the most common setting for
drinking.
It is illegal to host an underage drinking party.
Young people who drink are more likely to be victims of violent crime,
including rape, aggravated assault and robbery.
Young people who begin drinking before the age of 15 are four times
more likely to become alcoholics than those who did not drink before
the age of 21.
Alcohol-related traffic accidents are a major cause of death and
disability among teens.
Alcohol use is also linked with youthful deaths by drowning, fire,
suicide and homicide.
